Benjamin Franklin Coxsey was born about 1834/36 in Tennessee, probably in either McMinn or Polk County to Absalom and Elizabeth Haile Coxsey. He married Martha Louise Barksdale [1838-1894] in Tennessee before 1859.
Benjamin served in the Civil War in the Confederate Army. I sent for his service records and these are my notes from the file.

know that John B. Coxsey above is Benjamin's brother and I believe George A. is also a brother.
Benjamin and Martha Coxsey, along with several other Coxsey family members moved from Tennessee to the Bobo area of Carroll County, Arkansas soon after the close of the war.
Benjamin's sister,
Rachel Luvena Coxsey Johnson, moved to Searcy County, AR soon after the Civil War. Rachel to this day has many Johnson descendants in Searcy County.
Benjamin and Martha are buried in the Carrollton Cemetery, Carroll County, Arkansas.
Benjamin Coxsey in our Powell Rootsweb database
In your notes, someone from Texas said that Elizabeth Haile (Hale) Coxsey/Coxey remarried after Absalom died. They said to a Fount...well, it dawned on me today it was someone named Foutz/Fouts. Mary Fouts married James Coxsey and came to Carroll County. She was the daughter of Solomon Foutz/Fouts. Solomon married his slave woman first and then he married Mary's mother. He had a bunch of kids. Elizabeth Hale may have married him and died shortly after. He lived in Murray Co. Ga but his farm was in Polk Co. TN and Murray Co. GA. I guess they butted one another.
ReplyDeleteBenjamin Coxsey fought at the Battle of Perryville, KY. The fight was near our old Charles' Powell homestead.
And I think the John Bark on the census age 28 with John B. Coxsey is John Barksdale Coxsey. I can't figure that out.
We match the dna of a slew of George A. Coxsey's descendants. He moved to Texas.
