I
have been interested in following this thread because Eli Cooper was neighbor
to my James Cooper in Wills Valley, Ala. (Sand Mountain, 1820s). This became
DeKalb Co., Ala. This group moved back and forth between Wayne Co., Ky.; NE
Alabama; Campbell Co., Tenn. and finally most went to Arkansas.
As Peter Cooper said in his Eastern Cherokee Application, "We lived as
white people but everyone knew we had the blood" (paraphrase).
The key is Henry Ridenour (originally Reitenhauer). He was a Pennsylvania Dutch
trader among the Cherokee and married a Cherokee woman. That was Peter, Eli and
other sons' mother. Another son was James Cooper who married Mary Fanning. I
believe their father was Thomas Cooper and he was the brother to Isaac Cooper
(who married Nancy Blackfox) and Capt. John Cooper, the Choctaw chief.
Here is a hypothetical reconstruction--don't have solid connections yet but
think we are close to solving the mystery. Does anybody have additional
children and their spouses or birth dates?
