Another loss that hurts my heart. She’s in a better place, but oh, how we will miss her!
Virginia Lea (Powell)Montgomery, age 81, of Springfield, MO passed away December 13, 2025. She was born on December 26, 1944 in Denver, AR to Truman and Frances Powell.
Virginia married the love of her life, Robert Montgomery on May 3, 1969 who precedes her in death. Also preceding her in death is her beloved daughter Amy (Montgomery)Payne, her parents and her brother, Kenny Powell.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving brothers, Jimmy Powell, Donnie Powell, and Frankie Powell; As well as, Mark and Linda Montgomery and many other relatives and friends.
She graduated Green Forest High School and moved to Springfield, MO where she worked for Central Bank for 37 years and retired in 2010.
Her faith guided her life and she enjoyed fellowship as a member of the Mentor Baptist Church.
She will always be remembered for her great faith and love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, and the deep love she showered on her family.
Virginia told me her first job was at the telephone office in Green Forest on the switch board. I am not sure if she rented a place in town or drove. A couple of years later the office closed. She moved to Springfield with her friend Ann. Maybe Ann was a Rand. She met her husband when he came in the bank I think. Her daughter Amy joined the Air Force. She had Hodgkin cancer or lymphoma and died very young. Virgina took care of Bob when he got sick. She hurt her back and was twisted horribly. It was painful. Last she developed dementia. She had moved to a duplex after Bob passed and then assisted living. She was beautiful and sweet. We will miss her.
