This stump is on the Powell home place. It was "blown over" during Hurricane Ike. Sister Fleta took the photo in 2008. That is her son, Greg, standing under the tree. Hopefully, our DNA hits will help solve some of our family tree "stumps". There are still clues when the roots of a tree are pulled up. One just has to search the rubbish for the clues.
One of the main objectives I have for this family history blog is to record and organize in one place our family history. Our objective of our DNA tests is to add details and names to our family pedigree, although Sister Betty gets all the credit for follow through on this one, In the interest of these objectives, I have been looking at our family tree [Our Pedigree at World Connect] to identify some of the shortest branches of our tree, or Stumps, as in where the tree is cut short and the details have stumped us.
Here are my identified stumps:
Sarah Kiff's mother, nothing really is know about her except Sarah says she was born in North Carolina
Richard Kiff, Sarah's father, we know he was born about 1795-1800 somewhere in North Carolina. From 1850 onward, we have good records of him, but details prior to 1850 are sketchy.
Eli Cooper's mother, nothing known, not even a name
Benjamin Cooper, Eli's father, again we have records from 1850 on but have not identified his parents or siblings.
Elinda Adcock's mother's name was Mary and she was born about 1785 in South Carolina
John Adcock, Elinda's father, born about 1785 in South Carolina, our records start in 1850.
So, here are our Tree Stumps: Kiff, Cooper, Adcock, all surprisingly from our Grandpa Powell's paternal line.
